In 1988 Fernando and Frances moved from Atlanta to New Orleans where Fernando pursued his Master of Fine Arts in photography at Tulane University where he subsequently taught photography. During these years, 1988-1998, they maintained a residence in Alabama in Frances childhood hometown. They also traveled to Mexico, New Mexico, and Hawaii on photography trips. In 1997, Fernando traveled to Peru for the publication of his novella "El Camino del Mono", with a presentation to follow in Barranco, Lima, Peru in 1998.
